| The Xi'an Drum Tower District is the only one of two traditional Resident-Districts in the old districts, consist of many traditional courtyard which built in Qing dynasty, which are under good protection , Most of these courtyards have people lived in and they have the intergrity resident's frame. The style of DRUM TOWER District's building gradually vanish recently because more and more traditional courtyards are destroyed with rebuilding . China cooperate with Norway in maintaining three courtyards in comparatively good shape, these are : XI YANG SHI STREET 77,HUA JUE ALLEY 125 and BEI YUAN MEN STREET 144 . And these maintenance work set a good example for the whole district and the protected work was widespread promotion the concept of historic District protected . However the reuse of traditional courtyard is ignored. How to guide they reuse the traditional courtyard correctly ? The important concept of this thesis is protect and reuse's conjunction .This thesis began with traditional courtyard's present-situation survey, emphasize in character of traditional courtyard's buildup life of traditional courtyard and consist of traditional courtyard's resident etc . In base of this basic research work, The thesis suggests the plan of courtyard's reuse. In the planning, the thesis was put forward the phasing target. In short-term period time, the target is to improv the resident life with technologic method and full-used the space of building. In the long-term period time, the target is to improved resident environment with independent space. The reuse method of change-function courtyard was researched the present-situation survey and analyed the rationable.The work of traditional courtyard's protection and reuse was gradually appreciatedby people . In order to recover the life of historic district and realize the target of historic district's sustainable development finally , we are only to established the concept of protection and reuse's conjunction .
