Considering architecture appearance and construction design, over-long frame structures without expansion joint have been widely used in engineering project. While it has been recognized that the deformation of such structures in response to temperature changes will induce thermal stresses that are comparable to the stresses induced by dead or live loads, and the nodus is how to simulate a valid structure temperature field and estimate the deformation under the changing temperature field, then in order to evaluate thermal stresses and critical cracks caused by restricted deformation.In the thesis, the study actuality about temperature stresses is firstly summarized, and some finite element analysis theories and methods of concrete are also introduced in brief. Then a few words are said about the commercial code ABAQUS implemented by HKS. With ABAQUS, a primary study on temperature field and thermal stresses of building structures are performed in the thesis.The main study of this thesis includes three parts. Firstly, simulating the temperature field of a building envelope under periodic changing of ambient temperature, solar radiation, and nonlinear radiation exchange with its exposed to nature, and comparing the results with the ones computed by finite-volume method; secondly, in order to evaluate the importance of thermal stresses and response law of a typical over-long frame structure under uniform temperature change, the inner force combination of three type load-dead, live and thermal load are performed based on the concepts of elastic constitutive law, then in order to simulate the cracking process of the structure, the concrete smeared cracking model is taken, with its better simulation to tension stiffening, another hand, a modified Riks algorithm has also been used considering computation stability; finally, some significant design rules are summarized with an actural engineering project- Gymnasium of Jianggan District, Hangzhou.
