Dual frequency laser interferometer is the best precise and longest instrument to measure presently. With its good characteristic, the dual frequency laser interferometer is used in many fields, especially in the precise measurement of the long displacement and dimension.At present, measurements used to measure the length of middle or small workpieces turn more perfect. Many new methods and new instruments have appeared, which can fit for requirement of modern produce. But, there are many problems during the manufacture and installation of big mechanical equipments. It is one of the pivotal factors to measure and control the geometrical size, shape error and positional error in order to ensure the device quality. So the online measurement of their geometrical size and shape error and positional error is the problem to be solved. For big workpieces, traditional measurement is not only inefficient, but also impossible without the orbit as long as workpieces to be measured. Since twenty years, a studying laser synthesis telemeter with some problems not to be solved is not commercialization. So it is very important to study the method and technology by dual frequency laser interferometer without orbit. And it is a significative task to study a kind of instrument to measure automatically without orbit.This paper adopts a measurement project to track the measurement reflector mirror without orbit by theoretical analyzing and simulant experiment. The- i -measurement system be developed relates to optics, precision mechanism, electron, computer and control technology during the experiment. During the system, the photoelectric battery is used as the photoelectric incepted sensor, and the ADuC812 chip to acquire the data is adopted.The system is of high measurement precision and automation. It can solve the measurement problem without orbit guiding more perfect. And its measurement performance is very good. A lot of experiments have showed that this system provided a new useful method of measuring big workpieces on the spot.
