Associated with the Project of numerical modeling of hydraulics and water quality in Hongzehu river networks in the north of Jiangsu Province, which founded by the Department of Environment of Jiangsu Government, two models of water quantity and water quality are developed. On the basis of the results from the numerical simulation, the assimilation capacity of the Hongzehu river networks are studied. In this thesis, Hongzehu Lake and its connected river networks are regarded as a whole system, and the interactions between the lake and the river networks in the system are taken into account. Two numerical models of water quantity and water quality coupling one-dimension and two-dimension are established. Two models are applied to the Hongzehu Lake water system and according to the features of the flow field and concentration distribution along the rivers and in the lake, the transportation tendency of the pollutants is analyzed. The results from the simulation also provide the scientific basis for estimating assimilation capacity of the Hongzehu river networks. The results from the computation prove that the models are rational, reliable and effective. It is concluded that the methods and models have theoretic and practical significance in regional environmental planning and research.
