| With joining the WTO and the development of market economy, china has been a consumer market which has great potentialities. The quantity of retail organization is daily on the increase, and as a result the supermarkets are welcomed by the broad masses of city and town dwellers for their special management and architecture space morphology. They can keep with the modern living rhythm, popular psychology. During this process, GSM grow rapidly and become the most important form of supermarkets as they can satisfy people's needs of buying enough goods in one time.The thesis takes GSM as it's objects of study, the GSM in Xi'an as it's main surveying objects. Based on the collection and analysis of the supermarket, the thesis summarizes the specialty of the GSM in special form and put many problems of the GSM.The whole work consists of six chapters. The first part discusses the study purpose, significance, relative study level and the born background of the supermarket. The 2nd part talks about the born and developing history of the supermarket in abroad and the forecast of the supermarket's development in the future, and expounds the supermarkets of china at present. The 3rd part is the central one. It mainly talks about the space morphology, the design of the internal and external space of the supermarket and refer to other factors that influence supermarket design. The 4th part analyses three problems in the GSM in china, such as the relation between the GSM and the city traffic, the design humanization and the transition form industrial architecture to the GSM that becomes the popular phenomenon.
