Transmission is the critical components in automotive, Case is an important part of transmission assembly and carrying all the gear, shafts, synchronizers, control mechanism and other parts. Case, s strength, stiffness, and the ability to resist external shocks is particularly critical in the design process.This paper research a transmission housing in an light truck, and analyze case, s structural strength, optimize the design, in order to meet the performance requirements of the vehicle.First, Case, s three-dimensional solid model is established based on CATIA and introduced to HyperMesh pre-processing software by STP format. Divide mesh by means on its surface, simulate the load distribution on the case, build a model for strength analysis by constraining the boundary conditions.Secondly, calculate the stress distribution and the displacement distribution of the case, by simulation stationary state and working conditions, the forward braking and reverse braking situation. According to stress concentration, increase reinforecing ribs in the weak point of case. Then case is analyzed by free modal analysis unconstrained and is calculated about the modal frequencies and vibration mode. Determine the optimal solution by comparative evaluation before and after optimization.Finally, modal simulation and physical testing are tested for verification.In modal simulation, the parameters such as mechanical natural frequency, damping ratio, vibration mode of the case in a free state, were obtained and compared with the results.In physical test, the physical case is torqued on static torsion bench to verify if meet the design requirements.Experimental results show that the structure of the transmission housing is designed to meet the strength requirements of the vehicle, it is an effective method by increasing the ribs on the weak parts and optimized design rids. This paper systematically describes the entire process and the basic idea of housing strength analysis, as well as an effective way to increase the strength of the housing, provides a theoretical basis and practical experience for other transmission housing optimized design in future.
