Distribution automation is an important part of smart grid, which is also an important means to improve the reliability of power supply. Distribution automation development requires the distribution network to be able to accurately and quickly deal with faults, including fault identification, location and isolation, which gives the number and position of sub switches a higher requirements. In engineering practice, traditional practices are based on two or three sections, which does not consider the load distribution of the segmentation method is not only lack of theoretical basis, but also cannot guarantee the reliability of the distribution network. For this issue, this paper supplys the method which is based on a uniform load distribution, goal as the maximum reliability of supply, determining the optimal number of disconnect switches, and make a choice about position under the various segmented numbers, namely the layout problems.In this method, the average interruption hours of customer is used as the measure to assess the reliability, the maximum number of the section switches are determined by the largest load of feeder branch. Assess the reliability form two to the maximum number of segments one by one, achieve the purpose of selecting the optimal number of segments. For lOkV medium-voltage distribution network, this paper appoints two main types of distribution network overhead lines:the single-radial line and ring network line. This paper analyzes the method of distribution network optimization and distribution feeder section based on the reliability in uniform load distribution. The main research contents of this paper are as follows:The model used in this paper is lOkV overhead line, user’s average power off time is selected for the grid reliability index. First of all, we treat different lines as a uniform load distribution in main feeder and analyze the situation. Secondly, we analyze the IEEE 33 node model as unevenly distributed model and correct the reliability index. Finally, the method is used to form the theoretical procedure, as well as the general formula is concluded. Data analyzing, processing and plotting are finished by Matlab software.By summarizing the grid reliability analytical method under the uniform distribution model and unevenly distributed model. This universal method can be used in a specially appointed ring network line in Yunnan province. At the same time, we can analyze the previous remediation action. By compared to the load model, the method used in this paper can improve the reliability better and proved to be practical and feasible.
