Anti-surface and anti-aircraft weapons usually use the fragmentation warhead as their warhead so as to damage the target effectively. The effective of the damage heavily depends on the shape, the quality and the speed of fragment. Using the preset fragments, the source of stimulation to make a high-speed impact on the explosive fire is an important method to evaluate the explosive safety. Based on the flying characteristics of the preset fragments, mostly focused on the spherical fragments, cylindrical fragments and cube fragments, the speed attenuation rule was studied in this paper.In order to obtain the speed attenuation rule of spherical, cylindrical and cube fragments, with the help of the special artillery launcher, the principle of aperture armor-piercing discarding sabot cartridge and the target installation, an experimental system which is used to obtain the speed attenuation rule of typical preset fragments was proposed. By changing the charge structure of launcher, the speed attenuation experiment of three typical speed range of fragments (high, medium, low) were realized. By using the regression method and the experimental data the speed attenuation rule of three typical fragments in three speed ranges was deducted. According to the attenuation rule of fragments in different ranges and kinetic analysis, the model of speed attenuation rule of three typical fragments was achieved. The relationship between coefficient of air resistance and Mach of cylindrical and cube fragments in flight was discussed carefully. In order to evaluate the precise of fragmental speed, with the prediction empirical model of fragmental speed, the factors that affect the uncertainty of fragments of the forecast speed were analyzed, the calculation methods of each prediction uncertainty components were accomplished, and the uncertainty of speed prediction models is established.
