With the development of economy and automobile industry, car fleet is expanding rapidly in our country. The traffic problem becomes worse and worse. Vehicular Ad hoc Network (VANET) can get the road network and vehicles’ information through vehicle to vehicle communication and vehicle to infrastructure communication. The promising aspects in the field of intelligent transportation include transportation safety, entertainment and congestion relief. Congestion and, accidents mainly occurs around intersection. It is important to do research on intersection traffic flow control. However, it is difficult to model because of its complexity. Most of the existing model too theoretical and seldom take the nearby traffic flow into consideration as well as emergency control strategy.Our thesis focuses on VANET-based efficiency application in Intelligent Transportation System to ease the increasing traffic congestion problem. After studying different kinds of intersection traffic flow control methods and simulation tools, we have done cooperative simulation research on intersection traffic flow control strategy. Due to the complexity traffic network and high expense to conduct real experiment, we evaluated our control strategy by cooperative simulations. The main contributions are as follows:1) We propose an adaptive multiple intersection traffic flow cooperative control strategy which doesn’t need precise modeling. We raised a two-level fuzzy logic control method and used Q-learning to do further optimization which realized multiple intersection traffic flow cooperative control and improved intersection capacity. Furthermore, we raised an emergency control strategy which is to establish green channel to Emergency Vehicles.2) We established VANET Routing Protocol Analysis Simulation Platform. Users can choose the appropriate mobility model, routing protocol and performance index. It greatly improves the analysis efficiency. We established VANET Intersection Traffic Flow Control Strategy Research Platform. It is based on the integrated interaction of traffic flow simulation tools and network simulation tools. Users can do researched on different types of intersection traffic flow control strategy on this platform.3) In order to get realistic result, we built some models according to the fact from different aspects: the road network, trip demand, routes, microcosmic traffic flow, vehicles’ behavior decision and so on.After simulation and result analysis, the analysis efficiency has greatly improved through VANET Routing. Protocol Analysis Simulation Platform. AODV protocol can be used in our strategy. The congestion problem is relieved and the intersection capacity is improved with our proposed strategy. Emergency Vehicles use less time to travel the scenario and waiting less time.
