High-rise buildings are one of the symbol of urban modernization. For their highstories, dense population, complex functions and large spatial spans, it may causeheavy losses and disastrous consequences once fire occurs. The principle of fireprotection bases on self-saved in our country,s high-rise buildings. Fire protectionwater supply system mainly adopts water fire extinguishing system which includeshydrant system and automatic sprinkler system. Its reliability has a significantinfluence on ensuring the normal fire extinguishment in high-rise buildings.The paper studies from theoretical basis on reliability. It introduces someimportant concepts of reliability and puts forward four reliability models andcalculation methods which have been frequently used in fire water supply system.Based on the analytical method, the paper focuses on the reliability of fire watersupply system in high-rise buildings. And the main contents are as followed:(1) According to the fire extinguishing process and action principle of indoorhydrant system and automatic sprinkler system, the two systems should be looked asseries-parallel connected system. In this paper, the indoor hydrant system has beensimplified into a reliability model which is in series with four parts and automaticsprinkler system has been simplified into a reliability model which is in series withfive parts. Each of subsystem is paralleled by a number of same components.(2) Analyzing the reliability of subsystem and components of two systemsrespectively, and establishing relevant reliability function charts and reliabilitymathematical models. We can get the mean failure rate of all components fromreferences and statistical data. Based on the function relationship between failure rateand reliability, we can calculate the reliability of components and each subsystem.(3) Combined with specific engineering case, respectively calculating thereliability of different water supply modes of indoor hydrant system and automaticsprinkler system. After comparing the reliability of different water supply modes, theresults show that the reliability of water supply mode with fire pump parallelconnection is the highest in two systems, which provides reliable basis for the design of fire water supply system. However, how to rationally choose the water supplymodes in high-rise buildings fire protection water supply system should be decideddepending on the specific engineering situation and various factors.
