At present, the water loss of cooling tower is one of the largest projects of water consumption. A lot of studies have been carried out about water saving at home and abroad. Firstly, the research status of water saving technology at home and abroad on cooling tower is introduced comprehensively in this paper. The various measures for water conservation have been carried out based on previous study. According to these researches, the water loss caused by wind is determined to be dangerous for cooling tower. Because of this, a suitable dehydrator is considered to be a key point to solve this problem.In this paper, calculation model of wind loss was established and solving program was composed based on performance of atmospheric cooling tower and heat and mass transfer laws. Taking a300MW boiler as an example, setting parameters of cooling tower at different conditions. And then measured and calculated values of temperature in outlet and wind loss are compared. Based on compared results, the errors are acceptable and the model of wind loss is feasible.Dehydrator is selected as investigating object in this paper. After comparing the six types of dehydrators, orthogonal experimental design method is used to investigate the three types of dehydrators, which are BO-160/50, BO-145/42and SO-180/42. And then the efficiency of water saving of these three types of dehydrators, SO-180/42is one which is more efficient and useful to do water saving and control wing loss.The effect on water temperature in outlet and cooling efficiency are investigated in this kind of tower which is equipped with SO-180/42. The results show that the water temperature in outlet decreased by0.18degree, when cooling tower is equipped with SO-180/42that caused a increase the power. However floating water dropped in cooling tank can increase the temperature when it mixes with water in tank. Due to this bucking effect, there is no effect on water temperature in outlet when cooling tower is equipped with dehydrators. For atmospheric cooling tower, there is no obvious effect on efficiency of cooling when SO-180/42is equipped with cooling tower. That is because resistance in cooling tower is not big enough.
