| Through 5,000 years'Chinese history and culture, there are various traditional patterns and grains in different historic periods. At the same time every city has different geographic features, traditional cultures and folk-customs. Recently, with rapid progress of urbanization, each city is taking various measures to stand out by unique character and to raise self image status. An effective way to reach this end is to create an city image of regional characters. Public facilities, as windows to reflect city image, should be attached great importance. Its unique visual influence could not be ignored.Lots of cities proposed the slogans such as to create Qin Culture , to create Tang Culture and others like that. Under the same historical and cultural background, what designers need to do is creating city image of unique charms by reflecting different regional characters and cultures. At the same time, to inject vitality to modern city by designing public facilities embodying city image. This is also a new challenge for designers.This essay, taking public facilities design in Lintong as research object, is centered on design of city image with regional characters. It analyzed the application of traditional Chinese culture, especially Qin culture in design of modern public facilities from a profound view. The design project of Lintong public facilities, which this author has participated actually, used modern method, materials and processing technologies and is guided by traditional Chinese cultural theories. Thus a new image of Lintong was created; more and more people could become aware of Lintong culture or know more about it.The first part of this essay narrated the relationship between Qin culture and LinTong. Then history culture and the traditional design elements during the Qin period are researched. Thirdly, it pointed out existing problems in Lintong public facilities design.It find out the difference of Qin culture about Xi'an Ruins Park of Second Emperor of Qin Dynasty,unity square of XianYang lake and Emper Qin's Terra-cotta warriors and horses Museum. According to the theme of qin culture, this essay select the most prominent design elements while Can reflect the LinTong's city image to design, as well as a visual communication system was established by integrating patterns, words, colors and materials. It was a fine combination of traditional culture and modern design, which made its public facilities regional-characterized, unique and identified. At last, a conclusion on design method was researched. This essay not only added bricks to insufficient theories on city image through public facilities design, but also served as guide and references to future urban image design. |
