Water distribution network is the most important infrastructure of urban areas,and the reliability and persistent of supplying water is the key for conditions of basic living for people. The water distributions in most of cities in our country have these situations as follows, huge Scale, complicated structure, and there is not reasonable planning in gradually expansion at the same time. All the factors mentioned above lead to network management, reconstruction, the optimization scheduling etc became a very difficult problem. At the same time, GIS system perfection of domestic water supply company, and improved of the investment environment, to build urban water distribution micro models using these data being a necessary tool for improving water distribution network management and planning.The data of the network is the base of the entire model, and the key of model's long-term operation. Most of the basic data needed in the model are relative steady, but there are a lot of variables changes with time, coarseness coefficient, node discharge and so on, these all need constantly updating. All the data need strict analysis, and the details of the theories and techniques are expatiated in this thesis.The critical problems in the processes of building and calibrating model are analyzed. The roughness coefficients of the pipelines are the key of model's precise. Roughness coefficient equations are established according to the system optimization. The micro model and GIS system are merged in this article. All the theories are used in one of the cities of GUANGDONG model building, 24 hour's operation data are used, on the other word the measured data are monitored for one day. Test results show that the error between prediction and measured within 5%, which means that this model can be used in application because of the model being accurate.The most important function is giving scientific and accurate basis for managers, network operation and water transferring safety analysis in conventional and accident situation. For the reason of aging pipeline and industrial city, its reconstruction scheme and the basis theory also scheme selection to do a detailed analysis.Water distribution network model can be divided to micro and macro model, and their portion theory and appropriate using scale are different. Water supply micro model can be applied to the optimization of network management, network system's renovation and expansion; the macro model can be used for the pump station's optimized management. Whereas, micro model need much more basic data than macro model, cause that the macro model is model of merely based on the operation data. Both have their respective advantages and application method, this paper expounds the basic theory of both and applying scale.
