A Study On The Design Of City Plaza's Underground Space

The gradual development of our national economy accompanies the cities'growthin number and scale and the enhancement of urbanization ,modernization andpeople's living standards. At the same time people'demand for better life isincreasing, but they have to face some problems brought by city'development such ashigh density of population, traffic congestion, shortage of green land andenvironmental pollution, which severely affect and check city's sustainabledevelopment. Through the study of developed countries'experience in theconstruction of modern cities, this paper suggests city's development is thedevelopment of underground space in the orderly, reasonable, comprehensive andefficient way and is the three-dimentiona lintegration of city'space. Since thestudy of utilizing plaza's underground space just gets under way in our country thereis no systematic theory in this regard. The three-dimensional utilization of theunderground , space is the trend of developing Chinese underground space in thefuture and an effective way to solve the urban problems. Based on the analysis of theevolution of plaza's underground space together with case study of theircharacteristics, this paper summarizes the different characteristics of plaza'sunderground space i.e. plaza'underground space for commemoration, culture,business and transportation which lay the foundation for further analysis. The analysisof structural features, design principles, streamlines and constituents of the plaza'sunderground space provides us with basic understanding of the regularities and designtechniques which serve as a rational conclusion and reference for design andmethodolgy in the course of the in-depth systematic research of spatial design ofplaza's underground space.In addition, the in-depth discussion of light environment and disaster-preventionprovides user-friendly reference for plaza's underground space design.
