| Huanggang is located in the eastern part of Hubei Province, Chu head Wu Mei, and Eyuwan the junction of four provinces of Jiangxi, has "east and west, north-south north-south, was the sole thick, Tong Jiang Da-hai," the regional advantages. Therefore, Huanggang is the arteries concerning both strategy and traffic since ancient times.Huanggang's sub-tropical continental monsoon climate with both abundant sunlight and rainfall provides a unique favorable conditions for plant growth. Its superior regional environment and suitable climatic conditions have brought the preferred habitat for living since ancient times, and so far there have been a large number of vernacular architecture and other living facilities preserved in Huanggang.This paper focuses the existing vernacular architecture in Huanggang which is in the Eastern Hubei as the object of study, using the method of their typology to classify and identify local traditional houses in the deduction over time out of the types of Evolution, as well as the relations between those types. It is mainly divided into the following sections:The first part brought an introduction on the region's cultural history and Huanggang geographical environment from a macro perspective, while according to different uses of the building features, summarized several common types of traditional houses on the vernacular architecture in Huanggang, which is clearly defined in this study and leads to the research framework below.The second part, from the meso level, emphasizes on description and analysis of the traditional houses and the official residence in the Huanggang regions, mainly on the analysis of spacial structure and organization of the planar system and the structural characteristics. Through the different case studies, the prototypes of the traditional houses and the official residence are identified and both the archetypes and the evolution types are gradually traced back. Then a relatively complete typology framework has been established. It also provides analysis and study on several large-scale representative cases which have been well preserved in Huanggang.The third part of the text, from the macro level, describes the history, the culture and the current distribution of the fortified mountain villages which are also part of the vernacular architecture in Huanggang, and gives key case analysis on several villages in the Xishui County. On one hand, the author summarized the major factors of the site selecting of Huanggang; on the other hand, how the geographical and environmental conditions of Huanggang impact the construction of the fortified mountain villages is revealed.The fourth section analyses some of the ancestral halls of Huanggang region built on the traditional social impact, and, from a layout point of view, analyse the main types of ancestral halls in the Huanggang regions. During Part Five, a comprehensive analysis of the hidden deep and complex causes behind the appearance of the changes in the spacial structure and organization of the existing traditional houses in Huanggang is revealed on the method of collating and analysing information, mainly in feng shui concept, kinship and the co-concept of human, and a number of related cases as the reference for comparison and adding arguments are also demonstrated. Huanggang the reasons for the changing spacial structure and organization of the traditional houses are summarized from the aspects of natural and social environment, historical changes, and so on. Through the summing up and analysis of the spacial structure and organization of Huanggang houses, it can leads to the multi-angle and cross-disciplinary analysis on the local residential buildings and play a certain reference value for other follow-up studies. |
