With the development of modern science and technology, some disadvantages in traditional product design, such as long development cycle, low efficiency, and so on, have become more and more serious. To meet the market requirements and improve competitiveness, many enterprises have to explore new design method to solve those problems, and the advanced technology, virtual prototyping (VP) based on computer, has a very speedy growth. By VP technology, it is convenient to make design and modify or to do experiments on the virtual environment, without the dependence on physical prototype. So, the design cycle can be shorted, the product cost can be decreased and the market competitiveness can be enhanced.As a virtual prototyping trial, this paper choosed a new type of combined ALA-PM rotor motor. In this virtual prototype, both variable structure and variable parameter design are studied by using Solidworks tool, and technically supported by VB programming for the input interface construction. Thus, the applied operating platform is built.Accordingly, visualization research is followed by using the Animator tool, a Solidworks plug-in. The manufacturing and assembling processes are presented in detail by animation. This intuitive way can make the communication between designers and customers much easier. Meanwhile the design efficiency and quality can be improved obviously.
