With the development of global economy, the enterprises are confronted with more competition. Therefore, they have to develop higher quality products to meet customers'needs with less time and cost. However, the traditional design mode can no longer satisfy this demand. With the development of computer and information science, the problems existing in the traditional design mode may be well solved by applying virtual prototyping technology. Products with high quality but low energy-consumption can be developed by using this technology. So, this thesis chooses Coreless Axial-Field Permanent Magnet DC Machine(CAFPMDCM)as an example for virtual prototyping.A general introduction to the conception, significance and current status of virtual prototyping technology is presented first. Then the structure and principle of CAFPMDCM are introduced. By comparison, SolidWorks is finally selected as the tool to design the prototype. In this paper, the virtual model and assembly of CAFPMDCM are accomplished. By means of virtual molding of SolidWorks, 3D solid models of different parts in the motor are established and rendered. Then virtual assembly is done step by step, and interference analysis is conducted to analyze the rationality.Further, visualizing research on the manufacture process of CAFPMDCM is completed. 3D animation about the assembly and disassembly motor, injecting rotor and winding coil, is made by Animator and macro program of SolidWorks. In the end, based on the dimensions formula of CAFPMDCM, an input interface programmed by VB is tested to try the virtual design both for variable-structure and variable-parameter.
