As a new pulsed power supply, the Air-Core Pulsed Alternator has many advantages compared with the Iron-Core Compensated Alternator, such as simpler configuration,higher efficiency and much larger energy and power density.The Air-Core Pulsed Alternator has a very need of higher field excitation power supply, as a result of it's very low magnetic conductivity, nearly the same with the vacuum's, so, the self-excitation mode is adopted to keep the unit-source characteristic. Aiming at designing the excitation and control system, the self-excitation program and operating mode is proposed, some relative theoretical questions are solved, in addition, the capacitor charging power supply and the controller of all the system are also designed. Concretely speaking, the main content and contribution of this paper are listed as follows:1) the design of the self-excitation program and operating mode is finished.2) the mathematic model of the alternator is established, some theoretical issues have been analyzed and solved.3) the excitation and discharge process and the overall working process are simulated and researched based on the simulation model.4) the capacitor charging power supply is designed using the series resonant constant-current charging circuit.5)Based on DSP 2407, the main controller and the hardware interface circuit is devised according to the control program of the system.At last, the summary and the shortcomings of the paper is given, besides the expectation of the research work.
