The magnetic valve controllable reactor, which is developed on the magamp, could change saturation of the core by regulating the DC bias of the control circuit, and at last achieve a smooth adjustment reactance. This controllable reactor with DC bias has a lot of advantages, such as simple manufacturing process, low cost, high reliability and wide adjustment range and can withstand high voltage. So this kind of controllable reactor has a very large applicition potential for the grid's transmission capacity, adjusting the grid voltage, reactive power compensation, restricting over-voltage and so on. This paper analysis and design controllable reactor used as a arc suppression coil.First, this paper describes the particular structure and principle of the arc suppression coil with self-magnetic bias, and infers the corresponding status equation and sets up its mathematic model based on equivalent electrical circuit and magnetic circuit. Based on the analysis of magnetic valve arc-suppression coil's operating current, the formula of fundamental component and the harmonic components in the current are obtained which clarify the relationship between current and the magnetic reluctance of the magnetic valve and the air gap.Then, integrated from four considerations:the economy, regulation curve continuity, guarantee a certain depth of current regulation, the lowest harmonic level, according to the different magnetic valves'saturation level at the beginning and end of the current regulation, four sets of design method for the magnetic valve parameters are proposed. And then compared and evaluated the four methods from the available depth of current, costs, regulation accuracy of operating current and so on.Next, an software for designing arc suppression coil based on Matlab GUI is developed. This software combines parameters'setting, simulation and calculation in one, and can easily show the parameters'calculation results and operating current simulation results, greatly improving design efficiency.Finally, according to these methods proposed in this paper, a magnetic valve arc suppression coil with self-magnetic bias for 10kV power grid is designed, and the feasibility of the design scheme is proved by the simulation results. The optimization design and control of magnetic valve arc suppression coil with self-magnetic bias will be researched expediently based on this paper.
