In this paper, we propose a novel arc suppression coil (ARC) based on magnetic flux compensation (MFC), The characters of the ARC and its merits compared with other kinds of ARC are presented by the theoretical analysis and experiment results. Firstly, this paper describes the principle of the arc suppression coil based on magnetic flux compensation and the magnetic flux in the reactor is analyzed in detailed. When the secondary winding of a reactor is injected with a current, which has the same frequency and is in inverse phase with the reactor's primary winding current, the main magnetic flux of the reactor will vary continuously with the alteration of the injected current's amplitude. Then, the equivalent impedance of the reactor's primary winding still varies continuously with the change of all injected current's amplitude. Secondly, in order to realize the large capacity reactor, a new topology that the reactor has multiple secondary windings is proposed. The current in the reactor's primary winding (i1) is detected, then the control system generates current i2j( j=1,2… N), whose magnitudes are proportioned to i1 and phase are inversed with i1, i.e i2j satisfy . i2j are injected independently to N secondary windings of the arc suppression coil, then, we can control the magnetic flux in the reactor and the equivalent impedance of reactor is adjustable. After analyzing the operation principle, this paper describes the design method of the switch power supply of the control system and IGBT driver. And a new design method that the IGBT driver module 2SD315A is applied to substitute EXB841 is proposed. Then, the principle and circuit of the uni-polar PWM method is given detailedly. The whole system is simulated with Matlab/Simulink, and the results of the simulation are favorable. In addition, the EMI of this system is discussed in this paper.A prototype that the ARC has 8 secondary windings is built in Lab. The different experiments are carried out in low voltage and high voltage situation and the experimental results have good agreements with the simulation results. All the experimental and simulation results prove the ARC based on MFC is feasible. Experiments show that this arc suppression coil has such merits such as low harmonic, low noise, excellent dynamic response and high control precision. It can be widely applied in the reconstruction of power system.
