Doubly Salient Electro-magnetic Motor is a new brushless motor proposed on the basis of Doubly Salient Permanent-magnet Generator. It has simple structure with no winding or permanent magnet on the rotor, high reliability and low cost. In generating mode, excitation current could be regulated to keep the output voltage constant when the load or the speed changes, so it is easy to control and has a wide application prospect in the field of wind power generation.In this paper, structure of traditional Doubly Salient Generator and the problem of its application in multi-pole low speed direct-driven wind power generation is discussed, and the development principle of Less-pole-stator Doubly Salient Generator is given. The static characteristics of 24/32 Less-pole-stator Doubly Salient Generator, such as flux linkage, inductance, are analyzed by two-dimensional finite element method. No-load characteristics, external characteristics, regulating characteristics and armature reaction of Less-pole-stator Doubly Salient Generator are studied by transient field-circuit coupling method. Then its output characteristics and the output characteristics of 48/32 Doubly Salient Generator are compared for analysis. 24/32 Doubly Salient Generator experiment proves the resonablity of Less-pole-stator Doubly Salient Generator structure and the correctness of simulation analysis.Doubly Salient Generator has high non-linear magnetic field distribution and complex loss distribution. In this paper the core loss of Doubly Salient Generator is mainly research, and the core loss principle of ferromagnetic material and calculation method are discussed. The core loss distribution of generator under different generation mode is reached by the flux waveforms and the magnetic field distribution of generator different parts, and the core loss change law under different load, different generation mode and different stator structure is researched.
