Quality and supply reliability of electrical power in energy grids are worsened due to the persistent growth of non-linear, asymmetrical and frequently variable loads. At the same time, industrial and residential consumers require higher quality electrical power because of increasing applications of power-sensitive receivers. Many equipments are suffering severe consequences of poor power quality, e.g. malfunction of machines and instruments and consequently economic losses. To resolve this problem requires monitoring and measuring the power quality in energy grids. This can be realized by characterizing variations of the supply voltage at a given location over a period. Measurement results can be used to identify and describe electromagnetic phenomena which may cause problems in supplying consumers. In order to monitor and analyze power quality of electricity grid on different scale in real-time, we have proposed a on-line monitoring system for power quality. The system was designed according to methodology of modularization. There are three function modules: electric current detection board, electric voltage detection board and main control board. All the modules can be connected conveniently so that you can configure the modules as much as electricity grid needs according to the scale. On the other hand, the main control board can analyze historical data and communicate with remote host.
