Organize The Edge Space Of Urban Landscape Region

It's self-evident that urban landscape is valuable and significative to the city, it is the historical witness of cities'formation and development. Urban landscape plays an important role in building city logo,showing city characteristics,revealing city culture and forging city card for its culture and spirit connotation,also the value in ecology, aesthetic, and culture. So, the work to protect and recover the landscape is already the important content of urban planning and management.However,the city is a complex and giant system,one just a factor of whose constitution the landscape is closely related with the surrounding space. And,the surrounding of landscape who plays an important role in protectjing landscape features,suturing urban space and inheriting the landscape context,is"sensitive area"of urban space.However, in practice, we usually attach importance only to protect the landscape itself disregarding the control and management of surrounding space, which is not only the destruction to urban landscape, also damage to overall coordination of urban space. attempts to introduce the concept of Edge-effect and take the surrounding of urban landscape as the edge space of landscape region.And then with the relationship between landscape, space and person as the basis, this thesis is to discuss the organization methods of the edge space of landscape area and demonstrate the application of this theory taking the design of Nan-men-po as example.This thesis is divided into four parts:Raise a Question: Chapter I is to clarify the background and current situation of this topic, and the purpose,meaning,content of the study.Analyze the question:Chapter II first defines and explains concepts about the urban landscape, edge space and the edge space of the urban landscape, after that find the way to solve the question from two levels:theory and practice.Solve the problem:Chapter III is to summarize the function and value orientation firstly,and then defines the edge-space of urban landscape's scope. After that it discusses the formations,types functions, compositions, and levels about the edge space of urban landscape.Chapter IV which is the key point of this thesis is to discusses the solution to the problem.After summarizing the principles to dispose the relationship of urban landscape and edge space,the chapter is to study the way to organize the edge space of urban landscape from four parts:functional use,integrating structure, space forms, physical style.Finally, it's to raise that the key to model well edge space is to create fuzziness.The demonstrating instance:Chapter V is to demonstrate the practical application on particular edge space of the urban landscape region through the project "The Urban Design of South Gate area in Yan'an" which the author participated in.
