Pneumatic regulator is the most common component, and the circuit consisting of pneumatic cylinder and regulator is commonly used in industrial automation loop. However, the regulator valve is not considered in the type-selection software from Festo company of Germany and SMC company of Japan when the circuit is designed. In fact due to the inherent flow characteristics of the valves, the import and export pressure relief valve is variable in the process of cylinder movement. Therefore, this paper takes a direct-acting regulator of one company as the study subject, and the simulation of flow characteristics is carried out.The application of pneumatic technology is briefly described, which leads to the background and significance of the subject, the role and development of regulator is introduced.The basic structure, the principles and the relevant parameters of regulator is described, which will provided the basis for the mathematical modeling and analysis of static and dynamic properties.The mathematical model of one circuit consisting of cylinder and regulator is established, the parameters influencing the performance of regulator is analyzed, which will theoretical provided the basis for the building of the simulation model and the analysis of system.The regulator and cylinder circuit simulation model is built with the software AMESim, the parameter setting process and methods is analyzed. The impact of component parameters on the regulator stability simulation is calculated, the influence of the flow characteristics on the cylinder speed and the influence he cylinder speed on the outlet pressure is also analyzed, which it is necessary to take the regulator into consideration in the type-selection software.One experiment system is designed and built, the pressure in the inlet chamber of the cylinder, the cylinder displacement, the cylinder speed are test and compared with the simulation results, which certificate correctness of the simulation model and method, the reasons for the deviation is also analyzed.
