With the development of the power system, it is very important to study the stability of the power system. Power system is a very complex nonlinear system. In this paper, nonlinear control theories and methods are applied to the control research of the power system, such as the nonlinear H∞control, nonlinear optimal control and adaptive backstepping.First the mathematical model of power system is designed in detail. Aim to the strongly nonlinear of the power system, exact feedback linearization theory is applied to make the nonlinear system to be linearization. The optimal control theory is combined to design a nonlinear controller. The simulation results illustrate that the nonlinear excitation controller can improve the dynamic performance of the power system obviously and enhance the stability of power system operation.And then, according to the uncertainty of the power system, exact feedback linearization theory and linear robust control theory are connected to design a nonlinear H∞controller. The nonlinear H∞controller which is designed considers both the nonlinear of the power system and the effect of disturbance. The simulation results show that the nonlinear H∞controller can improve the stability of power system and enhance the robustness of the control system.At last, backstepping control theory is applied to design a speed controller to control the speed of PMSM. And then, the adaptive control theory is applied to design an adaptive backstepping controller to restrain the disturbance produced by the uncertainty of parameter. The simulation results show that the adaptive backstepping controller can not only ensure the stability of the system, but also effectively restrain the harmful effects on speed control systems.
