With the aggravation of the energy crisis, increasingly prominent of the environment issue, nuclear power has been accepted by China for its clean, economical, and sustainable properties. The main pump is the core of the first loop in a nuclear power plant, and it plays a vital role on the safety of the nuclear reactor operation. The status of study on nuclear pump at home and abroad and the development on mixed flow pump research is described; computational fluid dynamics theory and CFD analysis is discussed as well as the analysis of internal flow field of turbo machinery.The hydraulic mechanism of the nuclear coolant pump is designed according to the Parameters of AP1000; PRO/E is applied for three dimensional design and assembly; pre-processing software GAMBIT is applied for meshing; FLUENT is applied for numerical simulation; flow field characteristic inside the nuclear coolant pump is analyzed; the Values of all properties are obtained; the performance curve of the impeller and the pump is given respectively.Based on previous studies of other scholars and the calculation and analysis of the transient momentum conservation equations of the reactor coolant pump, a new speed model is presented by reasonable simplification. It has been proven that the accuracy of the model is capable of applying to transient analysis of the reactor coolant pump. The variation regularities of time when reactor coolant pump idle flow becomes half of the initial value under different rotational inertias are obtained.Analyzing the influence on the exterior characteristics of the nuclear coolant pump by varying rotation speed, the simulation methods, which calculate transient flow of nuclear coolant pump under station blackout accident, have been presented by using the governing equations description of transient flow in the pump interior and analyzing adequately the influence to interior flow of the nuclear coolant pump. Simulation and analysis for the full three-dimensional flow field of nuclear coolant pump under station blackout accident is done; total pressure distribution, static pressure distribution, velocity vector distribution and path line diagram of the coolant pump under station blackout accident were illustrated; flow field characteristic inside the nuclear coolant pump is analyzed; finally, the characteristics of the interior flow field is exposed. This can provide valuable reference to the analysis of nuclear coolant pump accident conditions.
