At present, the distributed control system has been widely used in the automatic control of power plant. As one of the most important equipment in power plant, boiler is a typical complex thermal system with many variables interconnected, in which the drum water level control is a difficulty. The widely used conventional PID control for the drum water level has many defects like fixed parameters which often need manual operation and the control effect should be further enhanced. The distributed control systems the manufacturers provided don't support the intelligent algorithm for boiler water level control.In order to improve the automatic control effects, this paper researches on the intelligent control for boiler drum water level in power plant. Firstly it introduces control tasks of the boiler drum water level, researches on its dynamic characteristics including steam and water supply interference and other factors, designs a distributed control system for boiler drum water level. Based on the original cascade three impulses control, a fuzzy self-adapting PID algorithm is developed in optimization design using Matlab software for modeling and simulation. Through four contrast tests, drum water level control system based on the fuzzy self-adapting PID is proved to have more superiority, better stability and security with practical significance, and provide some reference value for the improvement of the distributed control system.
