With the development of modern science and technology, the military and economicvalue of weapon system reliability is increasingly being recognized. For the high rate of fireweapons, especially for Gatling Gun with the fire rate of 3,000 ~ 7,000 rounds per minute, theimpacts, collisions and wear between comments are serious in the process of high speedautomatic action. This will makes the components cannot complete the required movements, cutting the fire rate, or even leads to weapons'and people's damage. All the above, it's ofgreat importance to study the reliability of self-sufficiency Gatling Gun.The main parts of work in this paper are as follows: First, taking the self-sufficiencyGatling Gun fire system as a target, drawing the reliability block diagram of self-sufficiencyGatling Gun, the reliability mode are build on that base; mathematical model of reliabilitycomprehensive index of three different states, such as storage state, transport state andworking state, are build on the analysis of practical states of self-sufficiency Gatling Gun, andthe reliability expression are derived under the corresponding states. This provides theoreticalsupport to reliability analysis of self-sufficiency Gatling Gun, and provides guidance toreliability prediction and reliability allocation of Subsystems and components in the progressof weapons'design. Second, on the basis of reliability theory, stating and inducing the actualfault of the Gatling Gun in the process of weapons'development and use, and further analysisthe various of failures, finding the occurs and effects of the failures based on the specificstructure; take the failure modes as clues, considering the appropriate parts, drawing thesubsystems failure mode, effects and criticality analysis (FMECA) forms. This analysis is along-term and important work, it provides information support for the maintenance, safety, durability, vulnerability, logistics support, maintenance, program analysis and so on, thereforethe FMECA analysis need to be repeated from the initial design to the end. Third, on the base of the FMECA forms, the failure fault trees of self-sufficiency Gatling Gun general system'stop events are built, so are the trees of four subsystems of missile systems, firing systems, guided air systems, back shell system. Take piston catching event of gas subsystem as anobject, do qualitative analysis to the fault tree, and finally the importance associated with thevarious comments are gained. The usage of FTA on self-sufficiency Gatling Gun could makethe analysis men have a better understanding on this weapon system, and make the systemstructure, function, accidents and maintenance become more familiar and systematic, thusmake it more productive in the process of weapons'design, manufacture, use andmaintenance, providing basis on fault diagnosis and the preparation of weapons manuals onthe same time. Fourth, the general approaches of the reliability allocation are introduced, andthe reliabilities of self-sufficiency Gatling Gun system and missile supplying system areallocated, using algebra distribution method and fuzz reliability distribution method; theanalysis on the hammer parts is done, and the fatigue life simulation experiment of hammerspring is finished, the result shows that the hammer spring has high reliability, fulfilling thedesign requirements of this weapon. The most importance of usage of Reliability allocationmethod to Gatling Gun is that it can make the designers more fully weigh the systemperformance, cost and effectiveness, as well as the relationship with time, making the systemdesign more reasonable. The main innovation of this paper is as follows: First, the general reliability mode ofself-sufficiency Gatling Gun is build, and the reliabilities is expressed by mathematical modes.Second, lots of work has been done on stating and inducing occurs and effects of the failuresof the actual fault of the Gatling Gun, putting the usage of FMECA and FTA methods in thepractice of analyzing the self-sufficiency Gatling Gun. Third, do proper allocation on thegeneral system and subsystems of the self-sufficiency Gatling Gun. The first point is abreakthrough on the theoretical mode, and the second and third points are applying thecommon methods into practice in the specific design.
