The amount of motorcycle has increased to more than 90million by 2010. The large numbers behind tell much about heavy pollution resulted from motorcycle exhaust emissions. Limits and measurement methods for evaporative pollutants from motorcycles and mopeds(GB20998-2007) has been released. It clearly defines that two rounds of the motorcycle strictly enforce the third stage of emissions and fuel evaporation standards from July 1st,2010, with a limited value of emission. Motorcycle industry will be facing serious challenges. At present, the domestic carburetor motorcycles account for at least 85% of China's motorcycles. Therefore, technically, it is very necessary and imperative to solve the fuel evaporative emission control issue of carburetor motorcycles.All the work done in the paper belongs to part of Guangdong science and technology plan projects "Motorcycle Energy Saving and Emission Reduce Key Technology Research and Application" (Project Number: 2010B0109000015). The paper contributes to the following aspects:(1) Firstly, motorcycle fuel evaporative emission control status was analyzed, then it demonstrates that motorcycle fuel evaporation emission control key technology focuses much on the performance of activated carbon canister research and its optimization as well as matching technology research between fuel evaporation emission control system and the motorcycle.(2) In this paper, theoretical analysis and experimental research have been carried out towards various factors which influent the working performance of the activated carbon canister. Also key technical route of improving the working performance of the activated carbon canister has been put forward.(3) With the carburetor motorcycle(HB125) as actual prototype matching, a set of motorcycle fuel evaporative emission control system has been designed.(4) The new designed fuel evaporative emission control system has been tested on motorcycle(HB125) with respect to the effects of fuel evaporative emission reduction, economy and power. The test results indicate that the new fuel evaporative emission control system meets China'Stage III motorcycle fule evaporative emission regulation. Installation of the fuel evaporative emission control system does not affect power or economy of the engine.
