Pseudo-dynamic testing method is currently one of the main structure seismic testing methods, which overcomes the defect of the quasi-static testing method that cannot truly simulate structural dynamic response under the earthquake action, meanwhile, it requires relatively simple testing equipments in comparison to shaking table testing method. On the basis of pseudo-dynamic method, the integral structure is divided into two parts, i.e. testing substructure and calculation substructure. The testing substructure is tested by dynamic testing method while the calculation substructure is just completed through numerical calculation. As a result, with pseudo-dynamic testing method, the experimental equipment and cost will be lower than other structural seismic testing methods, and the test efficiency is raised greatly.Through analysis and comparison of various substructure methods, the free-interface modal synthesis method is more convenient and effective not only for the substructural independent analysis but for the processing of substructural docking interface. Therefore, in this paper, the free-interface modal synthesis method was selected as the substructural methods on substructure pseudo-dynamic test. Considering the substructure pseudo-dynamic testing efficiency, precision and processing continuity, the forecast-correction Newmark (PCM-Newmark) method was selected as numerical integration algorithm on substructure pseudo-dynamic test.In this paper, the substructure pseudo-dynamic testing method based on decomposing whole motion equation whose theory and application were detailedly investigated. The basic theory and experiment steps, for a system with testing substructure of single freedom degree and calculation substructure of MDOF as well as a system that both the testing substructure and calculation substructure are MDOF, were given. Meanwhile, the related simulated testing programs were implemented. Using the accelerogram of El-Centro and Taft, the procedure of pseudo-dynamic test, for a fourteen stories structure model, was animated by simulated substructure at the range of elastic. The results were compared with those of numerical calculation under the wave of Taft. The testing results showed that the precision and efficiency of the substructure pseudo-dynamic testing method based on decomposing whole motion equation was very good for Layer structure model.The new pseudo-dynamic testing method that was the substructure pseudo-dynamic testing method based on independent analysis substructure was proposed depend upon the theory of stiffness correction which was introduced by Thewail and Roman and substructure pseudo-dynamic testing methods. Using the accelerogram of El-Centro and Taft, the procedure of pseudo-dynamic test, for a fourteen stories structure model, was animated by simulated substructure at the range of elastic. The results were compared with those of numerical calculation under the wave of Taft. The testing results showed the substructure pseudo dynamic test method was feasible and efficient.
