In order to improve power system stability and enhance the level of power transfer capability of existing transmission lines, series capacity compensations and High Voltage Direct Current Transmission (HVDC) will be widely used, which would be a non-ignored problem due to SSO resulting from them. Thyristor Controlled Series Compensator (TCSC) is the typical representation of series compensation equipment. Because of its nimble adjustment ability, it may well be equipped to restrain SSO. Research on this issue will be speaking volumes in theory as well as practice. In the thesis damping strategy is put forward, after analyzing the damping effect on different parameters of system. The main research work as follows:Firstly, the parameters which result in SSO are analyzed. Apparent impedance and torsional vibration rate are the keys of SSR at contrary states, and time constant and amplification factor are pivotal for cases of HVDC and PSS. Simulation is done for oscillating feature. Meanwhile, complex torque coefficient method is used for frequency of oscillation and eigenvalue analysis method is used for amplitude and rate with AVR.Then, operating trait is studied through simulation considering effect of trigger angle or electric capacity. To restrain SSO with TCSC. capacitor voltage is studied and the impedance trait of subsynchronous frequency, which offers the rationale.Lastly, modes for simulation are established refer to project account Effect of damping is researched by altering the frequency, triggering angle and compensation degree. Then, tactics of restrain SSO with TCSC are raised, regarding the specialty of damping and impedance which is discussed before. The research of this paper is funded by special fund of Key Laboratory of Guangdong Regular Higher Education Institutions under award No.ZDSYS200701.
