Abstract/Summary:
Urban Landmark space as one part of public open space is the formation of highly condensed area in the long process of historical development. The image of the city's characteristics, economic level, political status and historical context space can be incarnated in the urban landmark space. Special historical and geographical conditions shape oversea romance of Harbin. The study of urban landmark space design will improve the city's "sense of belonging" and influence, it gradually attracts the urban designers and users.The paper is divided into three parts, asking questions, analyzing and solve problems. At first, we study the background issues from the domestic, foreign and local analysis and set the content and methods. The paper discriminates the concepts about the landmark, urban landmark, urban landmark space and focuses on analyzing and comparing domestically and internationally between these research results. Then it analyzes the development in various stages of space, status characteristics and influence factors with urban landmark space in Harbin. It takes Hong Bo Square and Gogol Street for examples which have experienced a number of Urban Renewal in Harbin. Basing on these two landmark space, the author analyzes their design quality by three ways, on-the-spot survey, case analysis and questionnaire survey which contains a variety of urban landmarks space elements such as layout and structure, theme landmark, space accessibility and other aspects of cognitive meaning.At present, such kinds of research is too limited in China so far, and also no formal instructions of the landmark space design in Harbin, this research is conducive of design and development for Harbin urban landmark space, and the conclusion of this paper is real significance of establishing the city image, creating the urban business cards, attracting the outer investors and improving the city's comprehensive competitiveness.
