Tianjin port, which is an important port in north China, developed rapidly in recent years. The author analyzed briefly the present status of Tianjin port, then found the problem that tugs is insufficient number, function is not perfect. Then the author made optimal selection research of tug's building being in line with port development needs and functional, and looked forward to the best program.This paper started with basic sharp and dimension, and determined tug's sharp and dimension by analyzing past data and researching the theory. Contrary to the feature of seawater freezing in winter in Tianjin port, making tug's bow optimal selection research, and searching the program of hull energy conservation. Then making tug's main engine power selection based on the theory of multi-objective fuzzy optimization, and looking into the future that electronically controlled high pressure common rail diesel engine used in tug. By making comprehensive and systematic comparative analysis and research on tug's main propulsion, found the suitable combination mode. At last, the author introduced the shaft technology. After optimal selection, we find a form suitable for the tug worked in Tianjin port.In the course of study, the author considered tug's driving flexible and high thrust and energy saving and environmental protection, searching new way, and looking forward to test in practice.
