At present, with the development of economic globalization and import and frequent export trade between countries, shipping transportation occupies very important position due to the cost and the scope of delivery etc. in the car. And the PCC/PCTC transportation also increases prosperously with the vehicles trade increasing. PCC/PCTC refers to the carriage for vehicles, it usually carry the vehicles as the way of Roll on/Roll off, namely means the vehicle or wheeled equipment run on/off the ship through a pedal. Compared with other ships, PCC/PCTC faces more difficulty in maneuverability and higher risk because of its huge wind area suffered above waterline.In view of the structure characteristics and particularity of large PCC/PCTC itself, the paper firstly introduces the ship characteristics and operation characteristics based on after finishing reading many reference material and combining with the author's PCC sailing experience, and establishes PCC ship motion mathematical simulation model based on the thoughts of MMG separating models, and then simulates ship's different motion forms under external condition for understanding the maneuverability and handling limitation of the type of ship.The paper takes a ship 5214 cars capacity large designed PCC M.V. Maersk Wave as example, simulates the turning motion, straight ahead motion and emergency stop motion in calm conditions for verifying the precision of model and its engineering feasibility through the comparison with the ship actual data. According to the actual navigation environment, the paper makes the simulation of turning motion under the condition of strong wind in different wind direction, presentes its maneuvering limitations. By finishing the simulation of ship straight ahead motion under cross-flow in different flow speed, the paper presentes ship's application drifting angle in different flow speeds. Finally, it makes a simulation of PCC's motion under the effect of its bow and aft thrusters.This topic research results describes the PCC's overall maneuverability performance, provides guidance of PCC about the maneuverability characteristics under the influence of various external factors and the working ability of some marine equipments such as thruster for ship officers and pilots, and also provides a theoretical reference basis and reference data for PCC's maneuvering safety assessment in the actual sailing.
