Abstract/Summary:
As the economic society of human beings steps forward, the river function gets complicated. River not only plays an important role as habitats and migration corridors for creature, but also supplys humen beings with resource and energy, which accelerate socio-economic development. In general, river function is composed by three sub-functions, including ecological function, economic function and social function. The industrial evolution greatly quickened the pace of development and utilization of rivers, and resulted in the unbalance between ecological and socio-economic function. The sustainable development of river system has been threatened, as the ecological function was decayed.By retrospecting the theory research and experience on river conservancy, a proper view on river system can be found, that is, to take a river and its two land-river ecotones as a system, which is called river corridor. This research aims to establish a system of river corridor restoration planning, which is mainly composed by funtion zoning system and 4-dimensional structure planning system, to reverse the unsustainable development of river corridor.(1) Function zoning system:The geospatial description of river corridor is simplified to longitudinal, lateral and vertical direction. In longitudinal direction, a general function indexes system is firstly established, then the function evaluation is made in both quantitative and qualitative way using Hierarchical Analysis-Fuzzy Grading method. The river corridor is divided into four types of areas in longitudinal direction, including ecological conservation area, ecological restoration area, transition area and utilization area. In lateral direction, a model is created by integrating zoning models of nature reserves and special features of river corridor, which divided the river corridor into three types of areas in lateral direcion, including ecological core area, buffer area and recreational area. In vertical direction, the river corridor is divided into four areas, including deep water area, shallow water area, land-river ecotone and land area. Use the system in Haerbin Songhua river corridor function regionaliztion, and the result can be the basis of further planning.(2) 4-dimensional structure planning of river corridor: according to the 4-dimensional structure of river put forward by Ward, a 4-dimensional river corridor structure model can be established. On the basis of function zoning, the key issues involve:a) How to construct sub-corridors between ajacent habitats in longitudinal direction? b) How to restore ecological core area and set buffer areas and recreational areas in lateral direction? c) How to restore the vegetation structure and surface-underground ecotones in vertical direction? d) How to manage the river corridor system in time series? The structure planning is to resolve the above four issues. Use the system in Haerbin Songhua river corridor structure planning,and formulate measures for restoration and management.To guarantee the realization of planned objectives and response to changes in river corridor system, a management system is established to assist in ecological restoration, which is mainly composed by ecological monitoring and the setting-up of administrative organization. The main research results are summarized, and questions which still need to further study are proposed in the end of the paper.
