The Characteristics Of A New Type Of Fault Current Limiter And Its Effect On Power System

The short circuit fault is one of the most dangerous and frequent faults in the process of power system. With the growth of power system capacity, the magnitude of short circuit current continuously increase as well. There are demerits in traditional short circuit limiters more or less and can not fit the growth of the current level, so it is necessary to study the new style fault current limiting technology. Fault Current Limiting technology has became the hotspot in power system research.On the basis of reading a lot of documents and studying various kinds of topology, a new type of Fault Current Limiter been presented in this thesis. And the operating principles, characteristics and the choosing of limiter's parameters are also discussed in this thesis. An ATPDraw simulation is carried out to test the performance of the fault current limiter, and the result shows that it works well in limiting current.To investigate the application of FCL in project, the effect of FCL on the power system was discussed in chapter three, the contents as follows: (1) The influence of FCL do to the improvement of transient stability of power system, further more, the exhaustive deduction and theoretical analysis are carried out from perspectives of power characteristic of system with FCL installed and the work helped to explain the active role in improving the transient stability of power system played by FCL.(2) This article also analyzed the influence of FCA on the distance protection, and the distance relay can act reliably by using the new setting formulas also be analyzed.(3) The control of FCL to voltage sags be discussed, and the simulate also be done by simulation software, The result showed that FCL is to control the voltage sags is FCL is the essential characteristic.Besides, The problem of over-voltage during the process of distributed generation have been analyzed in theory. The breakdown current limiter to install in the distributional electricity generation under three kind of operating mode overvoltage problems, has been simulated with the help of the simulation software, it showed that FCL is crucial for Voltage Sags.
