With an increasingly prominent problem in big cities and the improvement of people's requirement to environmental quality, it gets more and more extensive attention to develop low-carbon public transport. In the case of no over-investment on urban road construction it was a great potential of public transport means of using the existing ground bus, and then improving and upgrading in order to improve the efficiency and quality of people's travel. Bus Rapid Transit(BRT) came into being in this context. Because of the characteristics such as its large volume, fast, safe and reliable, punctual and comfortable, green environmental protection and so on it had been internationally recognized as a revolutionary solution on urban public transport program.Firstly, the paper introduced and discussed the system structure and comparative advantage of BRT according to the needs of urban passenger transport. Secondly, combined with the current public transport problems of Shijiazhuang city it described the need to develop BRT in Shijiazhuang city from the aspects of the ease of traffic between supply and demand, optimization the structure of passenger traffic, adaption of urban sustainable development, good social benefits. Base on the analysis on BRT characteristics and public transport characteristics of Shijiazhuang the paper systematically explored the feasibility of constructing BRT in Shijiazhuang city from the aspects of the upper and lower limits conditions of passenger flow, road conditions, traffic conditions, city size conditions, urban expansion conditions. Next, the paper mainly analyzed the traffic efficiency and traffic benefits before and after consturcting BRT in Shijiazhuang city. The paper made some innovations on calculation methods of traffic capacity and proposed the method of using road impact factor to modify the traffic capacity of grade-separated junction and made some modification on the headway distribution models of access of traffic theory according to the characteristics of special turn-lane near BRT in signalized intersection. Finally, combined with Jianshe street of Shijiazhuang the paper made case studies and made the analysis on technological conditions, traffic efficiency and effectiveness of BRT at Jianshe street and the prospect of the development of BRT in Shijiazhuang.
