With the progress in technology and innovative ideas, the switching flux permanent magnet (SFPM) machine has been researched and developed. It has simple and reliable characteristics, high torque density and good capacity of flux-weakening speed-extension. Meanwhile, it is convenient to be cooled and has been widely applied to aviation, automobile and submarine fields. The primary research of this thesis is around calculation and analysis of a 12/10 SFPM machine. Firstly, research background and significance are introduced, and operating principle of SFPM is presented. The main parameters are given. Secondly, based on finite element method (FEM), the 2D model of SFPM machine is established by Ansoft 12. And static and transient characteristics are analyzed, including magnetic field at no-load, armature magnetic field, waveform of back-EMF and flux linkage at no-load. Furthermore, static torque, cogging torque, flux density distributions, winding inductances and flux-leakage are obtained. Thirdly, reactance parameters and the influence of air-gap length and rotor tooth width on the reactance parameters are calculated and analyzed. The motor magnetic fields are computed by Ansoft Maxwell 3D software. At last, the capacity of flux-weakening speed-extension and influence of structure parameters on flux-weakening capacity are studied, the flux-weakening coefficient and times of speed-extension are calculated, and the corresponding laws are summarized.Based on the research, the thesis concludes the rule of the machine basic characteristics variation, summarizes the law of reactance parameters by calculating data with changing the rotor tooth width and air-gap length, and analyzes the capacity of flux-weakening by changing with length of air-gap, rotor tooth and permanent magnet magnetization direction. The obtained results provide references for the design and prototype production of SFPM.
