The Ceiling Of The Tradition Constructs Of China

The present paper studies the application of caisson ceiling in the interior design space of modern architecture. Caisson ceiling is one of the typical decoration components of traditional Chinese architecture.In recent years, along with the economic development driven by the reform and opening-up policy, the material life of the Chinese people has been satisfied to a large extent. Consequently, the demand on the spiritual life has become more and more intense. Although the contemporary western life and mode of living are comparatively more comfortable than the traditional Chinese way of life, but the traditional Chinese architectural form is featured by some humanistic factors, which are lack in western architecture. Recently, with the large-scale urban construction in China, a large number of modern architectures have sprung up throughout the country. Gradually, the urban area becomes forests of concrete and traditions are lost. The architectural circle even argues that China has now become a testing ground of foreign architects. Although any city develops in the process of architectural tests, we still should not get bogged down in the ancestral legacy without any reform and development. The situation undoubtedly upsets the domestic architectural circle. As a large number of foreign architects flood into China and countless modern architectures successively stand up all around the vast landscape of China, the long-repressed national consciousness and national emotion begin to upsurge. Some pioneer architects start their exploration, and the architectural circle has witnessed the emergence of a series of exploratory works Considering the fact that many cities are still at the exploratory stage of design practice in terms of the study of modern Chinese architecture, the present paper attempts to analyze the successful domestic cases relevant to the application of caisson ceiling, a typical representative elements of traditional Chinese architecture, in modern interior decoration so as to summarize the existing problems concerning the application of classic elements in modern design, sum up the rising causes and the developing direction of the modern Chinese architecture with the hope of coming up with a method to combine modern and tradition better.The present paper is divided into five parts. Chapter one is an introduction, which discusses the research background, research object and research significance; an overall survey of domestic and foreign research; research methodology as well as the technical framework of the present paper. Chapter two conducts a research into the typical decoration elements of traditional Chinese architecture. In addition, a detailed analysis has been made of the characteristics of the shaping and decorative arts, such as the caisson ceiling of traditional Chinese architecture. Chapter three analyzes the inheritance and evolution of traditional styles throughout the architectural history. Chapter four studies the application trend of traditional styles in modern architecture. Chapter five concludes the whole research by pointing out the cultural connotation of the decoration elements of traditional Chinese architecture and claiming that cultural essence should be mastered so as to inherit and enhance these decoration elements.
