Automated warehouse, also known as AS/RS (Automatic Storage & Retrieval System, AS/RS), is an important component of the logistics system. It is managed and controlled by use of computer and stackers are used for executing the storage and retrieval operation. It is highly integrated by contemporary storage technology, communication technology, automation technology and computer technology. With its increasingly wide applications in various industries, there is a higher requirement on its operation efficiency and operational stability. In recent years, the hardware devices, automatic control and communication technology of the AS/RS have a rapid development but the operation scheduling, optimal management and operation monitor is drop behind, it greatly affect the overall performance of the warehouse and resulting in the capability waste of the advanced operational equipment. The operation optimization of AS/RS can reduce operating time and improve stacker's operational efficiency without increasing the investment on equipment. Meanwhile, with the characteristic of large-scale and complex, there is a higher requirement on the operational monitoring. The real-time monitoring of the operation and device status is a key factor to ensure the smooth operation of the warehouse. Therefore, the research on operation optimization and monitor technology of the AS/RS has important theoretical value and practical significance.This paper has a research on the operation optimization and monitor technology based on the existing research results and theories. First, the study object is analyzed, summarize the most common composition of automated warehouse and the operation processes and then define the functional structure of the AS/RS, which are the basis for further research. Secondly, the performance of the AS/RS is analyzed, the operation scheduling,location assignment optimization and route optimization of stacker are study deeply. AHP is proposed to evaluate the scheduling rules combination for solving the operation scheduling problem, the multi-objective optimization model is established based on common optimization principles for solving the location assignment optimization problem, the optimization models of selected batch operation and DC mode batch operation are established based on the analysis of the stacker's common operation mode for solving the route optimization of stacker problem. Then introduce the basic principles and steps of the GA (genetic algorithm) and SA (simulated annealing) algorithm. The GSA (genetic simulated annealing) algorithm is proposed based on the analysis of advantages and disadvantages of the GA and SA. The proposed GSA algorithm has the advantages of both GA and SA algorithm and its main principle is that the Metropolis criteria of the SA are introduced to the genetic operator of the standard GA. The GA and SA are used for solving a specific problem respectively, and the results were compared analyzed to further evaluating the performance of the GSA. The proposed GSA is used to solve the instance of location assignment optimization problem and route optimization of stacker problem and the obtained results improve the performance of the AS/RS. Finally summarize the functions of the monitoring system of the AS/RS and describe the implementation architecture of the system. The SOA architecture model ensures the system more flexible and easy to expand. Then introduces the client implementation of the monitoring system based on Silverlight technology and then gives the field testing of the developed system.
