Rock slope is a common natural geological environment of human and various construction activities, and it is also one of the main form of ground rock engineering. The process of rock slope deformation and instability is a fundamental steady state obtained by the natural self-adjustment process. And the main factors to assist in stabilizing are natural factors and human engineering activities. It's been a long history for studying the stability of slope, and the research is also based on the formation of human activities. As many large-scale construction projects in the world's countries to carry out, there appeared a variety of slope disasters and caused great loss, thus, it made an important topic to research of the slope stability. The analysis of slope stability is the core of researching in slope, and it is also a very important geotechnical problems. With the development of national economy of our country, especially for the western development policy, there are lots of large water reservoir dam projects, highways, railways and other large infrastructure projects to been launched. In these projects, the evaluation analysis of rock slope stability of a construction project came to be one of the common and important problem in geotechnical engineering. It not only had an important controlling role in decision-making of the feasibility of the project construction, but also had a significantly affect on the benefits of investment and operations of these projects. So it has important theoretical and practical significance to research on rock slope stability in a timely manner.Based on rock mechanics, rock mechanics, material mechanics, thermodynamics, basic engineering knowledge and theory and some research results of rock based on energy method, also by studying the rocks crack growth process, the failure process of rock and rock slope with cracks are analyzed in this paper. And the abrupt structural failure criteria of rock is established from the viewpoint of energy based on the least energy consumption principle. The main research is listed as followa:(1) The crack propagation law of rock is studied from the the rock micro-defects. The abrupt structural failure criteria of rock is established from the viewpoint of energy based on the least energy consumption principle, and it's compared with experimental result. The results show that the criteria is well accordant with the result of experimental data.(2) For internal cracks and other micro-defects with the rock, the pressure shear structural failure criteria of rock is established from the viewpoint of energy based on the least energy consumption principle. And the stress state of rock crack tip is studied of rock with crack. And the principle of minimum dissipation of energy failure criterion of rock fracture analysis was studied on the applicability of the process of rock slope failure.(3) Crack propagation process of rock are simulated with the exam of rock slope. And the process of multiple cracks gradually developing into a rock through cracks and causing the process of slope failure are studied, and also details of each phase is calculated.(4) Through the rock failure process analysis software RFPA numerical simulation of the rock slope, the crack propagation process and the crack propagation process of change are simulated. And in these process, the acoustic emission energy process in crack propagation process was showed. The results show that the criteria is well accordant with the above proposed result based on the principle of minimum dissipation energy, so ,it is a further evidence of the theory.(5) Through the finite difference software, the crack with native rock slope failure process of a single crack and multiple cracks in the rock slope failure process were simulated. The analysis had showed that there were important effects on the rock slope failure process of the cracks, which have the fracture mechanics and rock slope failure theory consistent. At the same time that the rock slope failure during crack growth along a certain angle and extend the corresponding crack length, which established this principle of minimum dissipation of energy rock slope failure theory is consistent with the last of the fractured rock slope stability evaluation.
