Simulation Research Of A Gasoline Engine Fueled With Ethanol Blended Gasoline

At present, energy conservation and gas emission reduction are two key orientations of technology development of the vehicle engine. The popularization and application of clean alternative fuel in internal combustion engines would effectively ease the scarcity of petroleum resource, and would reduce harmful emissions as well. As a very promising clean alternative fuel, the study of ethanol or gasohol impact to the internal combustion engine combustion performance has always been one of the hot researches at home and abroad, which attracted the attention of research departments and the industrial world.In this paper, a quasi-dimensional engine model of electronic control PFI multi-cylinder engine has been established, and the working process of the gasoline engine fueled with gasohol fuels was simulated. By using the experiment data and simulation ones the accuracy of the model was verified, and then the concentration of ethanol in gasoline on engine dynamic performance and economic impacts was intensively studied. The results show that under the operating conditions of stoichiometric air-fuel ratio, gasohol fuels would improve the engine volumetric coefficient, the output torque and power compared to the engine fueled with 93# gasoline increase, but because the ethanol's LHV is lower than the gasoline's, BSFC of engines fueled with gasohol would be higher.As ethanol is an oxygenated fuel with a high octane number, engine fueled with gasohol can work under a higher compress ratio. On the basis of above research work, this paper optimizes structure and operating parameters such as valve timing, compress ratio, spark advanced angle, in order to exert the advantage of the gasohol and optimize the dynamic performance and economic performance.
