In recent years, with the development of urban power grid construction, GIS substations are growing. Although GIS has small scales, all components free from environmental interference, and many other advantages, it also brings a complicated repair work, insufficient monitoring tools and some other new problems. With the author's own work in Banqiao PD monitoring system for the GIS project, this paper discusses field application of on-line detection and location technology in UHF GIS partial discharge.Firstly, the problems in the operation of GIS are summarized and the main reason of GIS insulation fault and the necessity to implement monitoring are described. Secondly, a variety of PD signal detection theory is introduced based on the causes of internal GIS PD and the caused harm. Then, the characteristics of all kinds of GIS PD signal detection theory are compared in details.In connection with the status of GIS PD Detection technology, this paper discusses various factors to be considered of the field application, for example, the relationship between system performance and costs and the method of installing monitoring devices on the running GIS without destroying the operating environmentThis paper presents the technical and engineering requirements of GIS PD monitoring systems in the Banqiao substation project, calculates the distribution scheme of the sensors according to the actual condition, proposes the requirements on the software system, sets a reasonable alarm strategy, and tackles some difficulties in the field application of PD monitoring system.The author hopes to accumulate some experience in implementation of the Online Monitoring System through the relevant research of this paper. The conclusion of the paper will establish the foundation to arrange the equipment maintenance and carry out remaining life assessment of equipments according to the results of GIS PD monitoring in Dongguan Power Supply Bureau.
