Recently, finite element method(FEM) analysis of ship structures is necessary for the large scale and new type ship structure design. The finite elemant analysis of structure strength of 388,000 DWT VLOC was performed against DNV Structural Rules for BULK CARRIERS. The main contents are as follows:1. Discuss the basic process of DNV rule direct calculation, including models of ship structure, dealing with the boundary conditions, choosing loading conditions, calculating the load, solving and analyzing the results.2. The finite element model of 3.cargo hold is built and then, the loads are imposed and boundary conditions are determined.3. The method of the fatigue assessment of ship structures was discussed,the main content of the simplified method presented by DNV rules was researched.4. The yielding strength, buckling and fatigue strength assessment of 388,000 DWT VLOC was done according to the DNV rules.
