The TACAN system was the abbreviation of the tactical air navigation system. It was the first near wireless navigation system that could provide distance information and direction information for the airplane at the same time in the world. It was first used to navigate for the aircraft carriers on the U.S.A aircraft carrier, and it was used for the air refueling by the tanker.The TACAN system was one of the important navigation systems in our air force, and the efficient maintenance was very important. Aiming at the testing of the TACAN airborne equipment, there was a signal source to analogy the signals emitted from TACAN ground navigation station as an excitation signal. There was the difficulty how to achieve TACAN video signal. The TACAN video signal was achieved by the several MCU and other separated chips or by the DSP and FPGA. A new solution was proposed to achieve the same function on a single FPGA chip to improve the original way.First of all, the black-ground and the content were introduced, and the principles of distance measuring and direction measuring were analyzed in detail, and the base format of the TACAN signal was also introduced. Then, the design tasks were introduced, and the main design circuits that produced the video signal and radio control signal were analyzed, and the principles of the top-to-down software design were introduced, and the simulations and the software design of the main modules were also introduced, including the PLL module, the UART design, the direction signal and the pulse sequence of the TACAN video signal etc. Finally, the actual testing results and the system adjusts were introduced, and the problems and the solutions were also provided. The summary to the main work of the paper was given.The results showed that the solution achieved the design requests, and it could communication with the PC by RS232, and generate the TACAN video signal including the changed distance and the adjusted direction.
