Twin-tower structure and Twin-tower structure with enlarged base are more and more popular, its unique shape make a building more characteristical.But previous earthquake showed that connection settings bring Twin-tower structure with enlarged base more severely destruction, so the study on the influence of connection settings to twin-tower structure with enlarged base has important practical significance.In this article, we do the analysis to the comparative models (Model 1: symmetrical twin-tower structure with enlarged base; Model 2:conjoined twin-tower structure, whose connection is at the top of the two towers; Model 3: conjoined twin-tower structure, whose connection is in the middle of the two towers) with the application of the finite element software,ANSYS, and mainly draw some conclusions as follows.1,By means of modal analysis to the comparative models, we obtained their natural periods of vibration, mode participation factor.The comparison of the fitted curves showed that:connection settings reduce the periods of most modes of vibration,which means that the rigidity of twin-tower structure with enlarged base is increased;and there appear obvious vertical vibration in the higher modal deformation.Compare the model deformation figures of the comparative models,we know:vibration mode of symmetrical twin-tower structure and connected twin-tower structure with enlarged base are symmetric or antisymmetric, the connection settings not only make the twin-tower structure's torsional vibration mode advanced two steps,but also increase the period ratio, which mean that structural toision effect is significantly increased,2,After the X and Y seismic acceleration spectral analysis to the comparative models, we obtained their floor displacement, story drift,and the floor horizontal seismic force.The comparison of the fitted curves showed that:Setting the connection at the top of the tower increases even the whole structrual seismic response, Setting the connection in the middle of the tower only increases the partial structural seismic response which is above the connection, but it can reduce the partial structural seismic response which is below the connection.After the Z seismic acceleration spectral analysis to the comparative models, we obtained their floor maximum displacement, The comparison of the fitted curves showed that:setting the connection brings the twin-tower structure with big base more largerly vertical seismic response, the higher the connection is, the greater the vertical earthquake.3,After structural elastic time-history analysis to the comparative models under three earthquakes waves (EL-Centro wave, Taft wave, artificial wave), finded and compared their structural maximum displacement,specific location and the time of occurrence; The comparison of above datas of each model showed that:the each model's maximum displacement under Taft wave is largest and the least is the artificial wave. The location and the time of maximum displace of different models under an identical seisemic wave, indicating that under the different seismic waves, setting connection and changing its position changes will change the structural properties.This paper not only provides a methodology to study the influence of setting connection and changing its location to symmetry twin-tower structure with enlarged base about earthquake resistant behavior, but also provides some degree reference value for engineering and technical personnel.
