This thesis is based on the project of 863 plan and it is mainly researching the eddy current loss and temperature distribution of active excitation magnetic fluid bearing. Magnetic fluid bearing which using magnetic fluid as lubricant is one kind of new types of bearings. It has more advantages compared with traditional bearings.A new type structure of magnetic fluid bearing has been introduced in this paper. Different from traditional bearings, winding coils have been added in this type of bearing, so that the magnetic field intensity can been controlled in order to control the viscosity of magnetic fluid. In this way the load capability and stability of magnetic fluid bearing are strengthen. A formula is proposed to calculate eddy current loss density distribution in the magnetic fluid bearing. A Finite Element Analysis model has been set up with the help of Ansys. Eddy current loss density distribution in the Finite Element Analysis model has been calculated by simulation. The result proves that the formula is correct. The eddy current loss density distribution has been lead into temperature field model. Temperature distribution has been calculated by coupling electromagnetic and temperature fields. The result shows the superiority of this new type structure magnetic fluid bearing.
