In recent years, wind power generation is developing rapidly in China. But the coastal areas are always affected by tropical cyclones, and the strong wind caused by tropical cyclones poses a great threat to the wind farm. To ensure the safety of wind turbines, the article studied the dynamic response of wind turbines under the strong wind.Based on the theory of Shinozuka, the normal wind and typhoon were simulated using the harmony superposition method. The simplified model of blade was built with the help of the finite element analysis software. Then the whole wind turbine model was built, and the dynamic characteristics of wind turbines and the blade were evaluated. The article studied three working conditions:the state of cutting out and the wind direction suddenly changing 90°or 180°.The wind load of each part of wind turbine was calculated and compared, and the wind load of the blades in different position was also studied. The stress distribution of the tower under static wind load was analyzed. Then the dynamic response of wind turbine was calculated. The results show that the wind load reduces obviously when the wind turbine is cutting out, but it may be dangerous if the wind direction suddenly changes 90°or 180°.The calculations of typical wind turbine show that the tower may be damaged at the height of 16.8m when the wind direction of typhoon changes 90°.The research result has certain significance to the grasp of dynamic characteristics of wind turbines under the strong wind.
