With the rapid development of science and technology, unmanned substation operation has become the trend of power system development. This paper mainly studies the automatic fire detection technology in the unmanned substations. Automatic fire detection technology is a new technology, which is based on the advantages of image processing and the high-speed computing of the computer language. Proposes this technology to analyze and judge the fire by using a fire image.This paper describes the mechanism, physical characteristics and image properties of the early fire. Then analyze the pre-processing and segmentation methods of the images, detail description and comparison each part of the carried out algorithm. This paper identify the fire through two aspects, one is recognize the dynamic characteristics of the early flame of fire and smoke, and the other is recognize fire in the image color space. Finally, do some simulation experiments for each part of the fire testing. The experiment verify the reliability of the algorithm in this paper.Experimental results show that the method presented in this paper can achieve better detection of the early fire, which is suitable for the application of the unmanned substation. This method has a good early warning capability in the fire.
