Titanium has attractive properties, including the lightweight, strength to weight ratio, high ductility, and low thermal conductivity. Titanium is produced principally by the reduction of its oxides and chlorides at elevated temperature. There are many disadvantages in the conventional procedures of producing Titanium, such as complex technology, high-energy consumption, high cost and pollution to the environment. Therefore, new methods, which deoxidize its oxide in molten salt, have been exploring. In present work, the liquidus curve of chloride calcium rich part of the ternary systems CaO-CaCl2-XCln(X= Na,Sr,Ba)have been investigated. Three pseudo-binary phase diagram below 30wt% CaO were drawn by differential thermal analysis, and solubility curves of CaO in three systems were gained. The constructed pseudo-binary phase diagram (50mol%CaCl2,50mol%NaCl-CaO) was found to be of an incongruent melting point type, its eutectic point is E.432℃(12wt%CaO), and pseudo-binary phase diagram (65mol%CaCl2,35mol%SrCl2-CaO) of two incongruent melting points type, its eutectic point is E.396.5℃(11.5wt%CaO), lastly, pseudo-binary phase diagram (63mol%CaCl2,37mol%BaCl2-CaO) is simple eutectic type, its eutectic point is E.467℃(7.3wt%CaO).The compositions and the temperatures of deflection points on the liquidus curves are given.Thermodynamic modeling via the Calphad technique has been applied, with the aims to get the valuable information for comparison. Comparisons between the calculated phase diagram and experimental data show that experimental information was accounted for by the present thermodynamic description.
